Cynthia Kirkwood
Born in Zurich to Canadian parents,
Cynthia Kirkwood grew up in Bermuda, but was educated in the United States at
Middlebury College and at the New York Studio School. Thereafter she traveled to
and spent two years in Italy, where she was drawn to the Umbrian frescoes of
Piero Della Francesca and the intimate modern still lifes of Giorgio
Morandi.
Perhaps more than shape and line,
color is essential to Cynthia’s art. She has this to say about how
color informs her creative sensibility: “My work is an homage to the whole
of life. The heart of each painting is colour. With the infinite world of colour
as my inspiration, I work to transform what life gives me and to give it back
the best I can so that painting is as simple and as complex as a fruit tree
bearing fruit.”
